The salary scale for Professional Support 5 is based on twelve steps that range from $69,728.09 to $97,480.18. New Professional Support may receive up to a maximum of seven steps for relevant occupational experience which is $83,709.51 annually.

What You'll Do Responsibilities

Reporting to the Academic Chair, School of Access, Education and Language with a functional reporting relationship to the Manager of Student Services, you will:

  • Provide career, academic and personal counselling, as well as guidance and support for students in the Adult Learning Program, leading to the Nova Scotia High School Graduation Diploma for Adults.
  • Engage in student intake assessment, data management, orientation, and retention support services as you collaborate with both the School of Access, Education and Language and Student Services departmental teams, as well as with support agencies.
  • Work closely with faculty of the Adult Learning Program and collaborate regularly with staff members in Student Services.

What You'll Need Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a Master's degree in Clinical Social Work, Psychology or Counselling or other Master's degree enabling registration with one of the provincial regulatory bodies noted below:
  • You are registered with or undergoing candidacy process with the relevant regulatory body; Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (NSCCT), Nova Scotia College of Social Workers (NSCSW); Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology (NSBEP).
  • You have a minimum of five years (full-time equivalent) of post counselling credential relevant occupational experience counselling adults in a variety of specialties, (e.g. academic, career and personal), including working with post-secondary and or secondary students.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail, Learning Management Systems such as Brightspace, Microsoft Teams and Enterprise Resource Planning systems such as Peoplesoft.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.
  • You demonstrate an understanding/knowledge of the adult learner.
  • You understand the framework for lifework development.
  • You have experience in training/facilitation preparation, delivery, and evaluation.

As a condition of employment, Professional Support employees at NSCC must complete a two-year (part-time) adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status; all probationary, full or part-time Professional Support employees of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. Term full-time Professional Support employees whose term appointment is twelve or more months are also required to participate in this program.
