DUTIES: The primary assignment of the successful candidate will be to instruct students, facilitate learning, and evaluate student progress by:
· planning, organizing, and managing learning activities and resources in both classroom and shop settings.
· incorporating your own teaching style to existing lesson plans by preparing and implementing various instructional strategies, techniques, and learning models to achieve specified learning outcomes and meet course objectives.
· establishing student performance objectives and evaluation methods and meeting with students regularly to gauge and evaluate progress and identify and resolve problem areas in teaching and learning.
· communicating effectively at a level appropriate to the ability of students and support an emotionally safe learning environment that is conducive to learning by maintaining appropriate classroom management following College policies and procedures.
· actively participating in and contributing to accreditation activities to ensure the program is of the highest standard.
· Instruction will cover subject areas outlined in the Plans of Training for Levels I through IV of both the Construction and Industrial Electrician trades.
· The instructor will also perform other related duties consistent with maintaining quality student-centered instruction.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:
· knowledge of the electrical trade, with a concentration in construction and/or industrial maintenance
· understanding of current teaching/learning methods and classroom management
· oral and written communication, analytical, conflict resolution, and organizational skills
· ability to work independently but also collaboratively as a member of an instructional team while demonstrating a strong commitment to student success
· ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a classroom and shop setting with faculty, staff and students
SCREENING CRITERIA:
· completion of Interprovincial Journeyperson Certification in Construction or Industrial Electrician and
· a minimum of six years combined apprenticeship training and recent related trade specific industry experience
· A pre-employment Certificate, Bachelor of Education (Secondary/Post-Secondary) Degree, teacher training, experience teaching at a post-secondary level would be considered assets.
· Basic computer literacy skills, training in Desire2Learn and experience teaching in an online learning environment are considered assets.
· Operations or managerial experience in the electrical field is considered an asset.
SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with the College of the North Atlantic Faculty Collective Agreement.
