For further information regarding this position, please email, Carolyn Marchand, Inclusive School and Community Services at carolyn.marchand@yrdsb.ca or Fawzia Durrani, Principal, Inclusive School and Community Services, at fawzia.durrani@yrdsb.ca.The Ojibwe Language Teacher will provide Ojibwe language instruction and support the implementation of the York Region District School Board's First Nation, Métis and Inuit Education Strategy at northern YRDSB schools in coordination with the Regional Ojibwe Language Team, including the Ojibwe Language Coordinator.Length of Assignment: This is a three-year term position with an optional additional two years. Upon completion of this term assignment, the candidate will return to a position in a school through the transfer or regional surplus process as per the regional staffing timelines.Qualifications/ExperienceExperience with conversational Ojibwe, experience teaching the language and fluency would be an asset;Applications from those that are not currently OCT qualified members will be considered;Information Technology skills are an asset;Land-based learning and Anishinaabek cultural knowledge are an asset.Experience with Indigenous pedagogy and educational interconnection is an asset.Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively on a team; andFirst Nations background and/or experience teaching Indigenous children.Line of Responsibility: School Principal and Acting Associate Director, Equitable Outcomes and SchoolsSteps Of The Selection ProcessThere are four steps to the selection process, each of which assesses candidates on different aspects of their leadership skills and abilities. (References must have been in a supervisory role with respect to the candidate.)The most recent TPA is also includedStep 2: Ojibwe Language AssessmentThe first stage of the process for all candidates interested in teaching Ojibwe language with York Region District School Board is our Ojibwe language assessment. This assessment has an oral and a written component and helps us determine whether a candidate’s level of Ojibwe is appropriate. Candidates will be contacted by Human Resource Services to schedule the language assessment.
